Team USA!!! - Fair Isle Hat

Did I say I would NOT start a new project before I finished a WIP??!

But this is a "Team USA" hat for the Olympics! :)

A super fun and (pretty quick) Fair Isle pattern from Blue Sky Alpacas. And what is better than using their Melange (Baby Alpaca) - so soft....

Go USA!

What's Knittin'?!

So I'm jazzed about one of my new year's resolutions. I'm going to write down all my "works in progress" - I know you must think me crazy!! Regardless of the ever-increasing pile of projects I haven't touched in years, or decided to start today, I am going to document all of these and give myself deadlines to finish. I figure this way I will hopefully complete more than I start, and have proof of what I've knitted this year! .... a good way to free up all those needles too :)

So first on my "finished" list is this fun and super lush "Burberry Inspired Cowl Scarf". A fellow knitter and friend came into my shop looking for the yarn used to make this project. Of course I had to start making one right away! Literally after she left, I had the yarn on the needles within the hour, thinking "I'm starting another project!!" But it was a quick and easy knit, good excuse to use Rowan's Cocoon yarn, and perfect for these blistery days :)

I recommend checking it out on Ravlery.. oh and by the way - Ravelry rocks! If you haven't discovered it - do it now. It's full of great info, resources, and free patterns!

Starting My First Blog

This is my first attempt at a blog.. here goes! www.tahoeknittingnest.com

Hello! And welcome to The Knitting Nest's blog... I'm Lauren and this is a little peak at my yarn shop. I opened last October (almost a year anniversary!!) in beautiful Lake Tahoe, Nevada. Over the past year, I've been a part of some really wonderful experiences that I'd like to share.

I had an open house/art show to introduce The Knitting Nest . I had a good friend display some of her amazing art: www.heatherpatterson.30art.com. And it was a great turnout! If it wasn't for the extremely large support of my Mother, Father, Sister and Ryan... Love you guys!

I started a "Thursday Night Knitting in The Nest" group - and found it to be just what I had hoped for. Good friends, wine, food, and lots of laughter! If only we could get some knitting accomplished :)

When a good friend, and husband of one of the TNKITK group, severely hurt himself, the ladies of the knitting group got together and made him an incredible "healing blanket". (See pic. below).

In April I had a booth at the Earth Day Festival, to show my support for all things "Earthy". I proudly sell many organic, and earth-friendly yarns, and try my best to help preserve Gaia.

I'm excited to be joining the Camellia City Stockinettes and to expand my knowledge and experiences as the owner of The Knitting Nest.

I hope you enjoy my blog... and Happy Knitting!!!

(The pic above shows me wearing a dress my Grandmother knit..40 years ago!!)
